Clause

What is Clause?

“A group of words which forms part of a sentence, and contains a subject and a predicate is called a Clause”.

Now we can see some examples

Example:

The sun rises in the East.
    S     /           P
The sun sets in the West.
He sat on the wall.
He knocked at the door.

The sun is Subject and rises is verb/predicate.

Kinds of Clauses

    1. Main Clause
    2. Sub-ordinate Clause
    3. Co-ordinate Clause
    4. Adverb Clause
    5. Noun Clause
    6. Adjective Clause


    Exercise:

    Find the Subject and Predicate from below mentioned sentences.

    1. The child slept in the cradle.
